THE VOLUNTEERS.
On Saturday the fourth monthly competition of the “L” Company 2nd V.B. Royal Sussex Regiment took place , on the Steyning range, under the usual shooting conditions. The following scores were made; – Sergeant Woolgar, 91; Corporal Moody, 85: Private Mannings, 80; Sergeant Reeves, 80; Private Rapley, 60; Private Seymour, 59; Sergeant -Instructor Manville, (who did not shoot at 600 yards), 49.

THE VOLUNTEERS.-
On Saturday the annual prize shooting meeting of “L” Company 2nd V.B. Royal Sussex Regiment was held on the Steyning range. The weather was all that could be desired, but the light was unfavourable to be shooting. Several visitors were present, and Captain Campion, the commanding officer, was on the ground to see volley firing carried out. In the first competition, the Ladies’ Prize, the top position was taken by Corporal H. Moody, with 89 points, and the second by Private C. Mannings, a last year’s recruit, with 86. Miss M.D. Smith, Henfield, proved to be the lady subscriber whose champion obtained the highest score, and she was awarded the prize given accordingly. In the second competition, the Inhabitants’ Prize, the first prize was carried off by Sergeant C.A. Woolgar, with 79 points, Corporal Moody being next up with 72. In the volley firing Sergeant Reeves’s squad was first and Sergeant Woolgar’s squad second.

HORSHAM VOLUNTEERS AT STEYNING
The E Co. (Horsham) 2nd V.B. Royal Sussex Regiment held their Annual Sectional firing practice on the Steyning Range on Whit Monday. The weather was distinctly unfavourable, heavy showers accompanied by strong gusty winds making good shooting impossible. About 60 members attended, and on arrival on the range at once proceeded with the practices. The best section proved to be No. 2 (Sergt. G. W. Flint’s) with a percentage of hits to shots fired of just over 50. No. 3 section (Sergt. T. Leaney’s) was second with a percentage of 32. No. 1 section (Col.-Sergt. G.W. Taylor’s) was third and No. 4 section (Sergt. E. Smith’s) fourth.

THE VOLUNTEERS.
The fifth monthly competition of the Shooting Club attached to “L” Company 2nd V.B. Royal Sussex Regiment took place on the Steyning Range on Saturday, when several good scores were made, as follows;- Sergeant Instructor Hook, 89; Sergeant Reeves, 87; Colour-Sergeant Chalcraft, 84; Sergeant Moody, 84; Sergeant Woolgar, 82; Sergeant Smart, 71.

VOOLUNTEERS’ MUSKETRY ARRANGEMENTS.-
The Steyning Range is open to the Horsham Volunteers from to-day (Saturday) for the musketry course of 1903. Range practice has been arranged for April 4, 11, 18 and 25; subsequent practice may be had by arrangement with Sergt-Major Teague. Class firing will commence on May 2nd, and will be continued every Thursday and Saturday, except the last Saturday in each month. Major B.T. Hodgson, commanding E. Co., has issued particulars of the musketry prizes offered for both trained men and recruits.

COMPANY ORDERS
- Class firing.- Practices 8 and 9 of the Trained Volunteers’ Course will be fired on the Steyning Range on the afternoon of Thursday July 9th, and Saturday, July 18th. All members must attend on one or other of those dates; dress, plain clothes. Name to be given in the night before.
- Shooting competitions for prizes will be held on the Steyning Range on the mornings of July 9th and 18th, particulars of which will be posted in the Drill Hall. EDITED

SHOOTING COMPETITIONS
Just recently the members of “E” Company 2nd Volunteer Battalion have had a shooting competition, attending the Range at Steyning on two occasions, viz., 26 on July 9th and 39 on Saturday last. Two out of the four competitions were compulsory. The prizes were distributed by Lady Loder at Leonardslee on Thursday, on the occasion of the Company’s march out to Sir Edmunds Loder’s delightful country seat. EDITED

The annual prize shooting in connection with B Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment took place at Steyning Range on Saturday last. Unfortunately, owing to the wind, the scores were very low. The range was in charge of Lieutenant F. W. Sim.

COMPANY ORDERS FOR APRILA AND MAY 1908.
1-The battalion has now become a unit of the Territorial Force for the County of Sussex, and is designated the 4th Batt. Of the Royal Sussex Regiment. The establishment of the Company is 3 officers and 117 rank and file. The Officer commanding hopes that every endeavour will be made by members to bring and keep the Company up to strength. EDITED
5.- Musketry – The musketry course will be the same as last year. The Steyning Range will be open on Saturday, April 11th. Practice will take place there on April 11th, 16th, 18th and 23rd. Class firing will commence 18th April and will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays. Musketry prizes will be as great as in former years.
